Our History A new chapter in the long history of Community Nurse began in 2001, with the adoption of our new name to better reflect our expanded service area and to spotlight our hospice services for terminally ill patients. We are now known as Community Nurse & Hospice Care, but our mission remains constant: to provide the communities of southeastern Massachusetts with skilled and compassionate home health care. Looking back … The Community Nurse organization was formed in 1916 to instruct new mothers on childcare and to provide health care to Fairhaven families through the school physician. In 1993, Community Nurse began the first Medicare-certified hospice program in our service area. Moving forward … Today, Community Nurse and Hospice care provides complete home health care throughout Southeastern Massachusetts and public health services for the towns of Acushnet, Fairhaven, and Dartmouth. Through our affiliation with the United Way and from fees for services, bequests, donations and special gifts, we are able to continue our proud tradition of expert nursing care provided by dedicated professionals.
