Although born in Portland, Oregon, Jane moved cross country to New England when she was six and has engrained herself in all things community since. She attended Bishop Stang High School, received her BS in Nursing from Lowell State (now UMASS Lowell) and her MS in Health Service Management from Lesley University. Prior to joining Community Nurse & Hospice Care as our President and CEO in 1985, Jane worked extensively as a staff, surgical, ICU and visiting nurse locally both at Tobey and St. Luke’s Hospitals and in Boston at Tufts New England Medical Center. In 2008, Jane was selected to participate in the prestigious Strategic Perspectives in Non Profit Management Program at Harvard University.
When Jane accepted the leadership role at Community Nurse & Hospice Care, the Agency consisted of two and half nurses, two administrative support positions and six home health aids. The Agency was run from a small outpost under the Fairhaven clock tower in the Town Hall and only serviced Fairhaven and Mattapoisett. During Jane’s tenure, the Agency has evolved and grown to over 200 strong, two fully functional offices, a service area of over fifteen towns, three services – visiting nurse, hospice care and private care – and to embrace a comprehensive approach to the community’s most urgent health needs.
Jane’s management philosophy is to treat employees as a unified family, investing them in all that we do. Jane takes a great deal of pride in what the Agency has accomplished and the quality of care that each and every staff member brings to our patients. She recognizes that it is because of the staff’s commitment that keep in tune with the community’s needs and have developed programs that reflect their needs including hospice, psychiatric, Alzheimer/dementia, chronic disease – to name a few.
Jane lives in Marion with her family and in her “spare time” enjoys boating, hiking, cooking, traveling, reading and knitting.
