Dr. Fogg & Community Nurse united through Gratitude

Dr. C. Douglas Fogg has spent years caring for the Southcoast Community as a well-known and respected surgeon and wound care physician for 44 years before retiring in 2015. Dr. Fogg’sconnection to Community Nurse Home Care goes back many of those years. As long as he can remember, he has been referring patients to Community Nurse Home Care, “the staff is always professional, knowledgeable and reliable.”

He sees home care as a critical part of our health care system. “I remember a time when doctors would make house calls,” he recalls. “Doctors now have such limited time with their patients, Home Care fills the gap. Your clinicians are in the home, seeing and hearing what the patient needs that they may not share in an office visit, taking in the patient’s surroundings, seeing their needs firsthand and communicating back to the physician.” He sees that as crucial to providing the best care to patients.

Hospice Care with Community Nurse Home Care has also been a support to Dr. Fogg personally. When his beloved wife Sandra fell critically ill, they decided as a family that the best place for Sandy was home. He and his family were prepared for what was to come and wanted the best team to care for her. They called in Community Nurse Home Care’s Hospice Team. Patty Martin was assigned as the RN Case Manager. “She’s a pro,” said Dr. Fogg, “she really knows what she is doing. She often reminded me that, in this case, I wasn’t the doctor. It was good and thoughtful advice.” He recalls, “Sandy loved everyone who came by, but often wantedher space. Community Nurse took their cues from her, listening to her needs.” It meant a lot to the whole family.

When she eventually passed, he says “She passed peacefully, and the staff made it comfortable for us all.” Dr. Fogg feels lucky that he and his family knew early enough to get the full benefit of the Community Nurse Home Care’s hospice team. “Not enough people use it,” he says. He encourages others to explore hospice care as a possibility for their family if they find themselves in a comparable situation.

Dr. Fogg has also requested Community Nurse Home Care for himself when needed. Having recent hip replacements, he said he felt the best place to heal was at home and the best team to help him do just that was Community Nurse Home Care.

Dr. Fogg continues to value these services and shows it through his financial support of the agency, attending Community Nurse events and as part of the Leadership Society. “Community Nurse Home Care has always been a great help caring for me, for my family and for my patients. I will continue to give to show my gratitude for the exemplary care we received.” Community Nurse Home Care is grateful for Dr. Fogg’s support, generosity, advice, and especially his visits.
